Design by Achille & Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, 1962.
Arguably one of the most recognised and (poorly) imitated lamps of all time; and the interior designers favourite, this is Arco.
The motivation for the Castiglioni`s design of Arco came from their realisation that most electrical outputs for ceiling lamps were invariably placed in the centre of a ceiling, even though most dining tables are not placed in the centre of the room.
Inspired by the design of a street lamp, whose shape enables them to project their light beams several feet away from their bases, this moveable "ceiling" lamp was created; a lamp providing over-head light where no drilling is required.
With it`s adjustable telescopic arm allowing light to be placed where required, Arco is perfect for dining, reading / working or to light up a dim corner.
Please note: The heavy base of the Arco light can be moved by two people; by inserting a broomstick through the hole in the marble.
